Asia’s best

NUS has been hailed as Asia’s top university in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2015-16. This reaffirms NUS' position as the best university in Asia, which was similarly reflected in the recent 2015/2016 Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, where NUS was ranked top in Asia.

The University is 26th in the world and has been placed in the global top 10 for international outlook and global top 30 for teaching and research. The THE World University Rankings measure a university’s strength in five key areas of higher education excellence — Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income and International Outlook. Drawing on data across 1,100 institutions, 11 million academic papers, and more than 11,000 academic surveys, the Rankings developed a list of top 800 universities from 70 countries.

Speaking of NUS’ position, NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan said, “We are pleased that NUS has been placed among the leading universities in the world and top in Asia...Our goal is to create distinctive value through pioneering innovations in education, deepening strategic partnerships with leading global institutions, as well as excelling in research and its translation to realise the economic and social value of our work for Singapore and beyond. Most importantly, we seek to ensure that our students fulfil their potential and make meaningful contributions to society.”

Noting that this was the first time in the THE World University Rankings’ 12-year history that NUS has been crowned as Asia’s best university, Mr Phil Baty, Editor, THE World University Rankings said, “The THE World University Rankings are uniquely comprehensive...using tough, global standards. So NUS has proven its strength in depth against the highest global standards...NUS’ new position as Asia’s top university and among the very best of the world’s elite research universities is thoroughly deserved.”
