Best in Asia

NUS has been named the best university in Asia.

For the second consecutive time, the University has retained its number one position in the latest rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

According to the QS University Rankings: Asia 2015, NUS showed outstanding performance across most indicators, maintaining its top spot in Asia for employer reputation and second for academic reputation. It scored full marks in employer reputation and academic reputation, based on 11,657 and 42,561 responses from employers and academics, respectively, in the region and the rest of the world.

The University was third in the number of citations per paper, a strong affirmation of its impactful research.

NUS is also one of Asia's top two universities across all disciplines measured. It secured Asia's best ranking in Social Sciences and Management, as well as Life Sciences and Medicine; and second in Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, and Natural Sciences.

Meanwhile, NUS also kept its position as one of the region's top universities in the latest Asia University Rankings 2015 by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine.

It was placed second based on the same performance indicators and methodology as the established THE World University Rankings. The ranking system uses 13 separate performance indicators to examine each university's strengths against its core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Mr Phil Baty, Editor of Times Higher Education Rankings, noted that NUS is edging close to Asia's number one ranked university, the University of Tokyo, and may soon overtake it. He disclosed that the four-point gap in the overall scores between the two universities last year has been reduced to just 2.8 points. "NUS is already ahead of Tokyo in its scores for international outlook and industry links ' which are strong indicators of future success, he said.

NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan was happy with NUS' maintaining its high placing at a time when Asian countries are investing heavily in education and research. He said: "As a global university that seeks to influence the future, NUS will strengthen our efforts to nurture graduates who are future-ready, pursue innovative advances in research and education, as well as deepen our collaborations with leading universities and institutions worldwide.
