Biz run raises record sum

All set for a good run!

NUS Business kicked off the new year with its annual Bizad Charity Run on 12 January, which raised a record $250,000 for students and the community.

Of this, $210,000 will go towards student bursaries and scholarships, in particular the NUS Business School Alumni Association (NUSBSA) Bursary Fund and NUS Business Student Support Fund, while $40,000 will benefit programmes and services under the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS). Guest-of-Honour Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries.

Mr Steven Yeo, Vice President of NUSBSA who chaired this year’s event, said, “The NUS Bizad Charity Run is a great cause that not only helps less privileged undergraduates achieve their goals at NUS Business School, but also supports a community beneficiary.” The NUS Master of Business Administration alumnus also said he was pleased to be able to mentor and provide guidance to the student committee managing the special event.

As part of its preparations for this year’s event, the student committee volunteered at CPAS. “This made the work we do for this event even more meaningful. It is an honour to be in charge of such an important event that also allows undergraduates such as myself to contribute back to society,” said Project Director and Year 2 NUS Business student Nathaniel Tan.

Now in its ninth year, the run took over 1,500 students, alumni and members of the public through the Kent Ridge campus in either the competitive 10km run or 5km fun run. Keeping to its theme of “Colours”, participants of the fun run had their hair coloured while participating in carnival games along the route.
