Encouraging regional dialogue

The University Scholars Programme represented Singapore and NUS as the host for the 17th ASEAN University Network and 6th ASEAN+3 Educational Forum and Young Speakers' Contest this year. Themed “ASEAN+3 in an Era of Global Uncertainty: Responses and Optimism” and held from 22 to 26 May, the event gathered students from the ASEAN region and the ‘+3’ countries — China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, to discuss and explore issues pertinent to the Asian region.

The opening ceremony was held on 23 May at University Town and featured speakers such as Associate Professor Peter Pang, NUS Dean of Students and Professor Danny Quah from the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
