New Vice President (Finance)
Mr Tan Kian Woo, Vice President (Finance) Designate
Veteran finance leader Mr Tan Kian Woo will join NUS as Vice President (Finance) Designate on 3 September 2018. He will take over from Mr Lim Kin Choo as NUS Vice President (Finance) from 1 October 2018.
Mr Tan was formerly Vice President for Finance, Asia Pacific, at Sealed Air Corporation, a Fortune 500 and S&P 500 US multinational company focused on packaging solutions, with businesses in food safety and product protection, and annual sales revenue in excess of US$4 billion. Mr Tan held regional CFO positions at Sealed Air Corporation covering Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. During his term, he provided strong financial leadership and business partnering to achieve sales growth and margin and working capital improvement, and substantially strengthened internal controls and compliance in the region.
Prior to this, Mr Tan was with Unilever for 16 years, where he led finance, IT and logistics functions in Hong Kong and Singapore. In addition, he was Regional Treasurer, Asia Pacific during 2000 and 2003. He left Unilever as its Commercial Director, Hong Kong in 2006 to join Sealed Air Corporation.
Mr Tan is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of Singapore with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree obtained from NUS in 1988.
“I am very excited to join NUS, which has contributed significantly to Singapore and plays a key role in shaping the future success of our country. I look forward to working alongside NUS leaders and finance colleagues in this new role,” said Mr Tan.
Mr Lim will retire from his position as NUS Vice President (Finance) at the end of September after 12 years with the University. During his tenure, he introduced the Travel Request And Claims (TRAC) system and was instrumental in establishing the Central Procurement Office. For his contributions to NUS, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in this year’s National Day Awards.
NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye thanked Mr Lim for his efforts in managing resource planning, financial services and procurement at the University, and welcomed Mr Tan back to his alma mater.
