NUS 17th globally for graduate employability

NUS is ranked 17th in the Global Employability University Ranking 2015 survey

NUS has leaped to the 17th position in a global ranking on graduate employability, up from 39th place in 2014. It is also the only Singapore university to be among the world's top 20.

NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, Professor Tan Eng Chye said, "We are delighted that NUS graduates have been recognised by employers globally as among the best in the world. This is a strong affirmation of the quality of NUS graduates and the University's focus on producing 'future-ready' graduates. It is a proud moment for NUS and Singapore.

Noting the fast-changing nature of knowledge and information, Prof Tan added, "It is vital to prepare our students to be agile and adaptable, with the right mindset towards lifelong learning. Through a holistic combination of local and overseas experiential programmes, enhanced general education curriculum and personalised career advising, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and ability to approach ideas and issues in creative, thoughtful and multidisciplinary approaches. We prepare our students for a lifetime of careers so that they can make a valued difference in whatever role or roles they may take on in the future.

Prof Tan shared that many NUS students have benefitted greatly from experiential learning such as the NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) programme and overseas student exchanges. "Students in the NOC programme, for example, work at small start-ups around the world and learn the business from ground up, while taking courses at top partner universities such as Stanford, Tsinghua and Fudan, he said. "Such Asian and global exposure, together with NUS' rigorous multidisciplinary learning, 'future-readies' our graduates for careers in Singapore and beyond.

The Global Employability University Ranking 2015 survey was conducted with over 2,200 recruiters from 21 countries, who were asked to vote for the universities that, from their professional experience, were producing the best "ready-for-work graduates.

The international employability survey revealed that many recruiters form preferences for certain universities largely based on these three top factors: their past experience with graduates, the international exposure graduates had at the universities, and the level of expertise.

The Global Employability University Ranking 2015 is designed and commissioned by the French human resource consulting agency Emerging, carried out by the German market research firm Trendence, and revealed exclusively by the Times Higher Education.
