Record gold haul at IVP 2015

The Women's Floorball team triumphs over their competitors at IVP 2015

TeamNUS flew the University flag high at the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games 2015, garnering a record eight gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals. The haul of eight gold medals is a remarkable feat not only for NUS, but for the IVP since its inception more than 30 years ago.

A total of 17 gold medals was up for grabs at the 2015 Games, which took place from 5 January to 3 February. NUS had 15 teams for Badminton (Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Floorball (Women), Netball, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis (Men & Women), Touch Football, Track & Field and Volleyball (Men & Women).

The Women's Floorball team made history when they scored its first gold at IVP since the sport was introduced in 2003. The captain of the Women's Floorball team, Alison Tan, Science Year 4, attributed their success to the collective effort of every team member, both on and off court, past and present. She said: "Our team has worked very hard over the years, growing from strength to strength, along with the desire to win. That made our victory so much sweeter.

Also sweeping the gold medals were the Women's Badminton team, Table Tennis (Men & Women), Track & Field and Swimming teams. The Women's Badminton team, in particular, was in great form and defended their title successfully.

The Men's Basketball team exhibited a tremendous improvement on their showing. From missing out on the medal board three years ago, they fought with great determination to clinch silver.

The annual IVP Games is a platform for students from institutes of higher learning in Singapore to pit their sporting skills against one another while fostering goodwill and friendship through sports.

Congratulations to all TeamNUS athletes who demonstrated tenacity and team spirit at the IVP!
