Students dazzle at Chingay parade

NUS participated in Chingay 2015 with a 12-metre Alice in Wonderland-themed float made of recycled materials

Some 300 students from NUS' six halls of residence proudly represented the University in the 2015 Chingay Parade from 27 February to 1 March at the F1 Pit Building and along Orchard Road, captivating spectators with their impressive 12-metre float and lively music and dance routine.

The colourful and decorative Alice in Wonderland-themed float, labelled "We love SG in commemoration of Singapore's golden jubilee, combined elements from the various floats displayed during the Rag and Flag 2014 by the individual halls. Made from recycled materials such as plastic spoons, gloves, egg trays and bottle caps, it depicted how Singapore, like the heroine Alice in the children's tale, had overcome many obstacles.

The collaborative effort of making the float and putting up the performance, by King Edward VII Hall, Eusoff Hall, Kent Ridge Hall, Raffles Hall, Sheares Hall and Temasek Hall, was the result of months of hard work and training. More than just a presentation, the occasion also celebrated the joy of hall life and demonstrated the unity and camaraderie among residents of the six halls.
