Surprise X'mas serenade

More than 100 nurses at the National University Hospital (NUH) were told to attend an important meeting with their Chief Nurse at the end of their working shift on 13 December. Instead, they were greeted by cheerful NUS students from the Eusoff Hall choir who serenaded them with a medley of Christmas carols.

“Today is really a surprise and we feel appreciated,” said Ms Liew Ming Na, Nurse Manager from the University Surgical Cluster at NUH. She added that her happiest moment as a nurse is when a patient is well enough to be discharged and thanks her.

The surprise caroling was part of an online initiative called “#happinurse” under the Ministry of Health’s “Care To Go Beyond” campaign, to show appreciation to the public healthcare nurses for their tireless and dedicated contribution during the holidays. As part of the initiative, members of the public are also encouraged to post their Christmas wishes for the nurses on social media and spread the hashtag “#happinurse”.

Carollers also paid visits to the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Geylang Polyclinic, Changi General Hospital, Institute of Mental Health and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, spreading cheer to some 300 nurses during this festive season.
