Transform to stay relevant

Prof Shih encouraged universities to transform in order to stay relevant

Transformation brings about reinvention, which is the only way to weather changes, said NUS University Professor Shih Choon Fong, who gave the NUS Engineering Lecture titled "The Pacific Century Beckons: Perspectives from an Explorer-Engineer-Educator on 9 October. He has tried to encourage this attitude at the institutions he has been involved in.

Prof Shih, a former NUS President, is the Founding President of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia. He has also held advisory roles with Peking University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Universiti Teknologi Petronas in Malaysia, among others.
