Assessing the value of mangrove swamps

Asst Prof Daniel Friess from the Dept of Geography in the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences discussed Singapore's declining coastal ecosystem as a result of urbanisation. He also examined the paradigm of 'ecosystem services' as a way of increasing awareness of the importance of ecosystems, and potentially as a way of quantifying their value economic or otherwise.
