Black holes in corporate governance ecosystem

Assoc Prof Mak Yuen Teen from the Dept of Accounting at NUS Business School discussed the rituals and anomalies that are like black holes in our corporate governance ecosystem. Assoc Prof Mak opined that a problem in corporate governance reforms is that so-called ‘best practices’ are often adopted without sufficiently considering whether they will work or add value in the local environment where they are to be implemented. He noted that a better approach is to understand the key deficiencies first and focus attention on addressing them.
