Can drawing Chinese paintings help prevent dementia?

Research Asst Prof Feng Lei from the Dept of Psychological Medicine at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine plans to start a collaboration with Shanghai Jiaotong University and Shanghai Mental Health Center, to study subjects who are at risk of dementia. The study aims to find out if engaging in Chinese paintings will improve the subjects’ cognitive and physiological abilities. A total of 120 patients, 60 from each country, will be trained by a local artist on Chinese painting and their conditions will be monitored over the next three years.
