Fighting an information avalanche during Covid-19 outbreak

Dr Carol Soon of the NUS Centre for Trusted Internet and Community and the Institute of Policy Studies at NUS discussed how governments have been fighting to contain the spread of not just the virus but also of false information as well as an overwhelming volume of information on the COVID-19 outbreak that flows relentlessly across borders. She noted that this information avalanche impedes people’s information processing ability, which is already compromised by anxiety and fear in times of crisis. This problem is magnified by digital innovation, she added.
