Getting to the heart of great public spaces

Dr Hoe Su Fern, Ms Jacqueline Liu and Mr Tan Tarn How from the Institute of Policy Studies at NUS discussed the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s ‘place management’ approach to creating great public spaces. They suggested that place management here could shift to prioritising “heartware” over “hardware”, and be less focused on results. They noted that this requires a mindset that is more open, tolerant, trusting and risk-taking.
