The Internet: A bright angel or dark trap?

Prof Zheng Yongnian, Director of the East Asian Institute at NUS, noted that the emergence of social media has rendered the traditional control of data impossible, giving rise to fake news in the US and other such “alternative truths”. He opined that whether the Internet leads to a shining light or darkness depends on the societal environment by which it is sustained.
