Low cancer incidence in bats traced to a protein they share with humans

Researchers from Duke-NUS Medical School discovered that bats have a higher concentration of a protein called ABCB1 than humans, which explains their low incidence of cancer. This protein strand helps bats transport toxins out of their system, hence less toxic chemicals are found in bats compared to humans. The findings could lead to new cancer treatments in the future.
