Managing urban waters in Africa: challenges ahead

Distinguished Visiting Professor Asit K Biswas from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, and Dr Cecilia Tortajada, Senior Research Fellow at the School’s Institute of Water Policy, noted that Cape Town’s current water crisis should be a wake-up call to improve urban water services across Africa. They opined that because of society’s emotional attachment to water, politicians have been reluctant to charge an appropriate price for water.
