NUS lecturer: Culture can bind a nation together
Dr Azhar Ibrahim from the Dept of Malay Studies at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences opined that having close ties with one’s culture and cultural environment has positive impact, for instance, it connects individuals to their community and prevents them from feeling alienated. The feeling of emptiness and alienation can drive some individuals to search for alternative ways to cope, making them susceptible to radicalisation and extremism.
