The old order, globalisation and the new era

Mr Shahid Javed Burki from the Institute of South Asian Studies at NUS examined global developments that took place in 2017. Among them were the near-collapse of the old order put in place in the years after the end of the Second World War; the inability of globalisation to spread evenly the rewards of steady growth; and the beginning of the new era – of China being an important, if not the dominant, player in the new global order.
