Promoting social connections at supermarkets

Assoc Prof Thang Leng Leng, Head of Dept of Japanese Studies at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Deputy Director of the Centre for Family and Population Research at NUS, noted that amenities such as supermarkets can play a role in promoting social well-being, especially among seniors. She observed that supermarkets situated in neighbourhoods are often natural nodes for people living nearby to congregate and hence a good fit to co-locate social activity centres or community centres with supermarkets.
