Racial stereotypes in media: Not just a bit of harmless fun

Mr Leonard Lim, Research Associate and Dr Mathew Mathews, Senior Research Fellow, both from the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) at NUS observed that though Singapore often strikes international visitors as an oasis of social harmony, undercurrents of racism do surface from time to time. They opined that we cannot call ourselves a truly inclusive society, if racial stereotypes in the media and in daily interactions continue to be the stimuli for some of our loudest laughs.
