The reality of US-China competition

Prof Khong Yuen Foong, from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, discussed the politics of power transition between the US and China. He opined that the distant time frame, the conditions of China’s ascent, the nature of US-China economic interdependence, nuclear weapons, prevailing norms against war, and the seriousness both sides have shown in learning from history, suggest that a negotiated settlement or a peaceful transition is a distinct possibility.
