Sedition laws, colonial legacy, and possibilities of dialogue

Prof Mohan J. Dutta, Director of the Centre for Culture-Centred Approach to Research and Evaluation at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, noted that the Sedition Act in India works as an instrument for stifling ideas and for silencing the questioning of policies. He opined that to cultivate its spirit of pluralism, India must begin by starting to undo some of the regressive elements of the Indian penal code.
