Trump’s anti-Nafta tirade may backfire

Distinguished Visiting Professor Asit K. Biswas from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, and Dr Cecilia Tortajada, Senior Research Fellow at the School’s Institute of Water Policy noted that the North American Free Trade Association (Nafta) is generally considered a success where imports and exports among the US, Canada and Mexico have increased significantly since 1993 (pre-Nafta). They opined that talks to renegotiate Nafta are intractable, and Mexico and Canada are looking elsewhere for trade, which may hurt President Trump's electoral base of farmers.
