US and China can escape the Thucydides Trap

Prof Huang Jing, Director of the Centre on Asia and Globalisation at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS opined that the US-China relationship remains uncertain. The lack of strategic trust between Washington and Beijing prevents the two from establishing a sustainable cooperative relationship and even if such a relationship would be achieved temporarily, it could become a liability rather than an asset given the complexity of internal politics in both countries.
