What are these nodules on chicken feet?

Mr David Tan from the Department of Biological Sciences at NUS Faculty of Science noted that the nodules seen on chicken feet are likely the region where bony projections called metatarsal spurs grow out from and that chickens use these spurs for self-defence and aggression.
