NUS is 15th in the world in latest QS World University Rankings

University ranks 11th globally and top in Singapore for academic and employer reputation

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has been ranked 15th in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2018. Based on the latest survey, NUS is in the top 1 per cent of universities in the world, and among the top 2 per cent in the rankings. The University also is placed 11th for both academic and employer reputation globally, and continues to be rated most highly in Singapore for both indicators.

Since 2014, NUS has moved up 9 places in the QS World University Rankings.

The QS World University Rankings 2018 surveyed 75,015 academics and 40,455 employers, and ranked 959 universities. It employs six performance indicators – academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty student ratio, and proportions of international faculty and international students – to assess a university’s strengths in research, teaching, employability and internationalisation.

Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, NUS President, said, “NUS has continued its strategic focus on nurturing future-ready graduates, developing lifelong education, conducting world-class research and contributing to economic and societal advancement through research translation, entrepreneurship and service. While NUS is placed 15th this year in the QS World University Rankings 2018, we are pleased to note that the University continues to be very highly rated for Academic as well as Employer Reputation.”

“We will continue to stay focused on bringing positive impact to the communities we serve through education and research.”

Mr Ben Sowter, Research Director at QS, said, “Making the world’s top 20 is a fantastic achievement for any institution. Given the fierce competition from other leading universities, maintaining a top 20 position is truly remarkable and denotes not only the results of a relatively short-term investment, but the sustainable transformation of the very culture and fabric of the university. NUS appears a fixture in the QS Top 20 having comfortably made the grade for the third year running.”
