Bacteria used to extract precious metals from e-waste in NUS study

A team, led by Assoc Prof Yew Wen Shan from the Dept of Biochemistry at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the NUS Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation, has re-engineered the Chromobacterium violaceum bacterium to give it the ability to create enzymes that can recycle metals such as gold, platinum and palladium from e-waste.
