Book assesses constitutional law in S'pore

A book examining the recent growth of constitutional cases in Singapore was launched on 26 July at NUS Law, Bukit Timah Campus.

Titled Constitutional Interpretation in Singapore: Theory and Practice and edited by Assistant Professor Jaclyn Neo from NUS Law, the book looks at the underpinnings of Singapore’s constitutional system and explores how Singapore courts have dealt with issues relating to rights and power, as well as sets local developments within the larger context of constitutional developments worldwide. It argues that Singapore is witnessing a shift in legal and political culture as judges and citizens alike display an increasing willingness to engage with constitutional ideas and norms. 

Gracing the book launch as Guest-of-Honour was former Chief Justice of Singapore and NUS Pro-Chancellor Mr Chan Sek Keong who spoke at the event, touching on current themes in constitutional law and the origins of the Singapore Constitution.
