Built to last or built too fast?
Discussing the Kolkata flyover tragedy in India and the maintenance issues of the Washington DC Metro, Distinguished Visiting Prof Asit K. Biswas and Mr Kris Hartley of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS noted that the underlying causes for both cases are poor management and governance, which exacerbate fiscal constraints and physical planning challenges.
