Challenge Tomorrow

This episode explores how an ageing population is re-shaping societies in Japan, Australia, the United States as well as Singapore. It featured a team led by Assoc Prof Yu Haoyong from the Dept of Biomedical Engineering at the NUS Faculty of Engineering, who collaborated with NUH, to design and develop the exoskeleton to help stroke patients with their rehabilitation. Assoc Prof Fung John Chye from the Dept of Architecture at NUS School of Design & Environment, Assoc Prof Gerald Koh from Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health and Assoc Prof Goh Lee Gan, Professorial Fellow at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine also commented on how well-designed public spaces would encourage the elderly to come out of their house to interact with the community and avoid social isolation; how technology and continuous innovation such as tele-rehabilitation could deliver care and improve lives of the seniors; and to have a correct mindset towards seniors as 80% of them are well and enjoying life respectively.
