China's economic transition and its risks
Prof Zheng Yongnian, Director of East Asian Institute at NUS, noted that China’s economic restructuring efforts will bring about challenges that include a heightened risk of economic contraction that will have a negative impact on production, employment, tax revenue and even social stability. He added that mid- to long-term dangers have landed China in a “middle income trap”, therefore salvaging the economy should be the top priority.
