Clarence Ti appointed NUS Deputy President (Administration)

Public service veteran and outgoing Ngee Ann Polytechnic Principal and Chief Executive Officer to oversee administration and assist in organisational transformation at Singapore’s flagship university

The National University of Singapore (NUS) announced today that Mr Clarence Ti, outgoing Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) Principal and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has been appointed Deputy President (Administration) with effect from 12 May 2021. In this role, Mr Ti will oversee the University’s administrative policies and functions in the areas of health and wellness, information technology, legal, procurement as well as privacy, risk and compliance. He will also assist NUS President in the University’s transformational efforts in the area of organisational excellence.

Mr Ti will succeed Mr John Wilton, who had served as NUS’ Deputy President (Administration and Finance) from July 2018 to January 2021.

NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye said, “NUS is deeply grateful to Mr John Wilton, who brought immense passion and professionalism to the University. Under his administrative leadership, NUS embarked on major new initiatives covering finance, human resources, procurement, risk and compliance, legal services, health services in the initial phase of organisational transformation. We thank John for his invaluable contributions.

“We warmly welcome Mr Clarence Ti, who is well placed for his NUS leadership role. He has served in the public service for over 20 years with the last 10 years in the top position of two public sector organisations. Over his career, he has served in various roles across a number of government agencies in areas of investment promotion, business and operations management, planning and co-ordination, as well as legislative and policy reviews.

“My colleagues and I look forward to working closely with Clarence, as we develop an even more efficient and forward-looking administration, to ensure that NUS continues to be nimble and resilient in a post-COVID world.” 

A wealth of experience in the public service

Mr Ti is the current Principal and CEO of NP, a position he has held since May 2014. In this role, he leads the polytechnic in expanding innovation and entrepreneurship programmes, adopting emerging technologies such as data and AI, and promoting service learning.

Prior to his appointment in NP, Mr Ti held positions in a number of government agencies, including the Singapore Economic Development Board, the Singapore Land Authority, the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Finance, where he was Chief Executive of Vital, the shared services arm of the Singapore public service.

Mr Ti said, “I am delighted to join NUS during these exciting times, when the University is taking the lead in innovating the way education, research and entrepreneurship is designed and delivered. A robust administration cluster plays an important role in enabling this crucial transformation.
