‘Energy islands’ to harness sunlight

At the 10th Anniversary celebration of Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) at NUS on 5 April 2018, Prof Armin Aberle, Chief Executive Officer of SERIS, announced three flagship research projects that will further strengthen the institute’s capabilities – to develop a multi-purpose floating photovoltaic system that is suitable for off-shore applications in sheltered waters like Singapore; to develop more efficient solar cells in collaboration with NTU and NRF’s CREATE; and to develop cheaper and more efficient solar panels that can be integrated into buildings to overcome land constraints.
