From ‘Look East’ to ‘Act East’

Dr Amitendu Palit, Senior Research Fellow and Research Lead (Trade and Economic Policy) at the Institute of South Asian Studies at NUS discussed the Act East policy that was announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Asean-India Summit in Myanmar in November 2014 as an upgrade to the India’s Look East Policy. Dr Palit noted that India’s integration with South-east Asia, particularly with Singapore, has become so ingrained that it is no longer possible to visualise the regions in isolation of each other.
