Guilty by location

Asst Prof Johan Sulaeman from NUS Business School discussed the findings of a study that he had conducted with his collaborators, in which a firm\'s location was found to affect how it is perceived by lenders and other sources of financing, and can have a profound effect on its real decisions and ultimately its survival. He opined that the Monetary Authority of Singapore\'s initiative to set up two departments to combat money laundering and terrorism financing is a step in the right direction.
