World's most highly cited researchers
Eleven NUS scientists and engineers have been named among the most prominent researchers in the world by Clarivate Analytics, the former Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters. The Highly Cited Researchers 2016 report revealed that the University also recorded the most number of highly cited researchers among research institutions in Singapore for the third consecutive year.
The NUS researchers, including the late conservationist Professor Navjot Sodhi, stood out in the fields of chemistry, computer science, engineering, environment/ecology, materials science, mathematics, physics and social sciences. They were recognised for making significant impact in their fields by publishing a high number of scientific papers, which ranked among the top one per cent by citations in the respective fields, in the given year of publication.
Professor Ho Teck Hua, NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology) and Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Professor, said, “NUS has always placed strong emphasis on providing a conducive environment and good support for our faculty to do high-impact research and to stand out globally. It is indeed very heartening that 11 exceptional and dedicated NUS colleagues have contributed significantly to their respective fields. This is also a strong recognition of the efforts NUS and Singapore have been making to attract and nurture scientific talents who will go on to contribute towards the advancement of science and technology globally.”
The Highly Cited Researchers 2016 report evaluated close to 130,000 highly cited papers indexed over 11 years from 2004 to 2014, in 21 fields of science and social sciences. It also tracked authors who published articles ranked among the top one per cent of the most cited in their respective fields in each paper’s year of publication.
