NUS Cities partners Urban Land Institute Asia Pacific to promote urban planning research and education

NUS Cities, an interdisciplinary centre based in the College of Design and Engineering (CDE) at National University of Singapore (NUS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Urban Land Institute (ULI) Asia Pacific to promote joint research and education activities in the areas of urban planning, management of cities and net-zero buildings.

The MOU was signed between NUS CDE Acting Dean Professor Teo Kie Leong, and President of the ULI Asia Pacific Mr David Faulkner, at the opening of the ULI Asia Pacific Summit held this morning at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for National Development, Professor Low Teck Seng, NUS Senior Vice President (Sustainability and Resilience), and Professor Khoo Teng Chye, ULI Asia Pacific Chair and Director of NUS Cities.

Under the MOU, NUS Cities and ULI Asia Pacific will collaborate on a research project in the area of net-zero buildings. The MOU will also facilitate the involvement of ULI’s industry members in education activities undertaken by NUS, where students could leverage the experience of industry practitioners as mentors for their projects or skill development.

“The MOU strengthens our existing ties with ULI Asia Pacific and enriches the learning opportunities of our students through engagement with industry practitioners across different disciplines. For example, we will be leveraging on ULI APAC’s commissioned UrbanPlan Workshop and library resources to enrich our students’ learning,” said Professor Teo Kie Leong, Acting Dean, NUS College of Design and Engineering.

“Educating the next generation of diverse leaders is a global mission priority for the Urban Land Institute and this partnership with NUS Cities enables us to bring the industry and students together to achieve this goal. The development and management of sustainable and liveable cities will ensure the wellbeing of future generations and the Urban Land Institute is pleased to be partnering with NUS Cities to advance the knowledge sharing in this area,” said Mr David Faulkner, President, ULI Asia Pacific.
