Duke-NUS study: Activated DHA and proteins help in brain development

A study by researchers from Duke-NUS Medical School found that activated DHA and proteins are needed by the body to promote brain development. The researchers showed that DHA cannot be directly absorbed by the brain but must first be activated or converted into a form of fatty acid called LPC-DHA via metabolism. LPC-DHA is then transported to the brain via a protein called Mfsd2a which helps the brain to absorb nutrients and develop.
