Why Singapore needs stronger safeguards against rise of religious and identity politics

Dr Mathew Mathews, Senior Research Fellow and Melvin Tay, Research Associate, both from the Institute of Policy Studies at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS observed that there is a rise of religious nationalism across the world. They opined that stronger safeguards are necessary for cohesiveness given Singapore’s highly diverse society where harmony is critical for survival and core to the Singaporean identity.
