NUS accorded joint PEP Best Suggestion Award

NUS was presented with the PEP Best Suggestion Award at the Pro-Enterprise Panel – Singapore Business Federation (PEP-SBF) Awards 2019 ceremony on 26 Nov 2019.

This accolade recognises the collaborative work between NUS, Nanyang Technological University, Agency for Science, Technology and Research, and National Environment Agency, in reviewing the licensing requirements for users of confocal microscopes. Confocal microscopes are special microscopes that use a laser for illumination instead of visible light. Some of these microscopes contain high powered lasers which require users to be licensed. While the microscopes have high powered lasers, laser emission level at the point where the user may be exposed to is below the regulatory limit. After establishing a series of safeguards, users no longer need to apply for user licence, resulting in cost-savings of more than $100,000 annually and time-savings.

The PEP Best Suggestion Award honours private sector individuals and businesses which have contributed feedback and suggestions to the PEP, leading to significant improvements in the business operating environment.
