NUS graduates enjoy higher employment rates, salaries

NUS graduates continue to enjoy good employment rates and competitive starting salaries

NUS fresh graduates continued to achieve good employment rates and earn high starting salaries in 2018, with nine out of 10 graduates employed within six months of completing their final exams, according to the Joint Graduate Employment Survey 2018 conducted by NUS and the other Autonomous Universities.

Graduates from 12 courses in Business, Computing, Engineering, Nursing, Science and Law achieved a higher employment rate, while more than 90 per cent of graduates from Business, Computing, Engineering, Nursing and Yale-NUS College were employed within six months of their final exams. Fresh graduates from Dentistry achieved full employment. Another 2.6 per cent of NUS fresh graduates in the labour market have accepted a job offer pending commencement of duty or are actively starting a business venture.

The survey also noted that the mean gross monthly salary of NUS fresh graduates in full-time permanent employment increased by 3.3 per cent in 2018, to $3,779, while the median remained competitive at $3,500. Starting salaries improved for graduates from 28 courses in Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Computing, Business Analytics, Industrial Design, Project and Facilities Management, Real Estate, Engineering, Nursing, Science, Law, Pharmacy, as well as those offered by Yale-NUS College.

In addition, fresh graduates from Computing, Engineering, Science and Law enjoyed improvements in both salary and overall employment rate.

Prof Ho added that the University remains fully committed to graduates in their learning journey even after they enter the workforce, through the NUS Lifelong Learners Programme. He said that a vibrant community of lifelong learners can be expected at NUS over the next few years, with each of them making positive and impactful contributions to Singapore and society at large.
