NUS, Newcastle University renew ties

NUS and Newcastle University (NU), UK, have renewed their partnership on a university-wide coursework-based exchange programme for undergraduate students. A similar agreement was signed between the two universities in 2003, which builds on an active student exchange partnership that first began as far back as the late 1980s in the field of Architecture.

NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan and Newcastle University Vice Chancellor Elect Professor Chris Day signed the agreement at NUS on 20 October. Prof Tan said that NUS was “delighted to extend this collaboration” with the formal renewal of the agreement.

From AY 2017/18, eligible students from NUS Arts and Social Sciences, Engineering, Computing, Science, Design and Environment, and Law are able to spend up to two semesters at NU, while accumulating modular credits to fulfil their degree requirements.

NU has 24 academic schools and 40 research institutes spread across three faculties — Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; Faculty of Medical Sciences; and Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering — offering around 175 full-time undergraduate programmes.

“We are very proud to be able to reconfirm in person our commitment to this exchange. We hold our long-standing partner NUS in great esteem and prize this as one of our most long-standing exchange arrangements,” said Prof Day.
