NUS prof's volunteer efforts recognised

Associate Professor Albert Teo, Deputy Director of the NUS University Scholars Programme, was conferred the Healthcare Humanity Award 2016 (Volunteer Category) on 6 May. The Award is given out by The Courage Fund to salute outstanding healthcare workers and volunteers who serve as inspirational role models by offering care and comfort to the sick and infirmed.

Assoc Prof Teo has been a volunteer with the Communicable Disease Centre wards of Tan Tock Seng Hospital since 2001, visiting patients every Saturday despite his busy schedule. His idea to use massage as a way of showing acceptance to patients spurred the development of the “touch therapy programme”, which has since been used by many volunteers at the Centre to promote emotional healing in patients.
