Oral humour for good cause

To raise funds for oral healthcare, NUS Dentistry is organising Oral Humour – The Show with Bite, an original comedy that celebrates the art of dentistry and looks at life from the dentist’s chair.
The 88-minute variety show, produced by Ms Andrea Teo, best known for TV comedy hits Under One Roof and Phua Chu Kang, will be staged at the Esplanade on 28 August. It will feature a stellar line-up of top local celebrities and comedians such as Mr Hossan Leong, Ms Koh Chieng Mun, Ms Nora Samosir, Mr Sebastian Tan, and winner of the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 2013 Golden Horse Film Festival Ms Yeo Yann Yann, along with special performances by NUS alumni.
Proceeds from the show will support innovation, research and clinical programmes at the National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore (NUCOHS), as well as enhance facilities and provide financial aid to needy students pursuing dentistry at NUS.
When completed in 2019, NUCOHS will bring dental education, oral health research and clinical services under one roof to synergise the delivery of oral healthcare and drive new breakthroughs in dentistry. It will also house NUS Dentistry, the country’s only dental school. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities, the centre will be able to accommodate 40 per cent more patients daily, including those with complex medical conditions, mobility impairments and special needs, as well as a higher undergraduate intake from 2021.
“Support for Oral Humour – The Show with Bite will enable us to train the next generation of oral healthcare professionals, increase access of oral healthcare services for the vulnerable, and drive clinical excellence and oral healthcare innovation through research. NUS Dentistry is proud to be leading this noble cause and we look forward to generous contributions from our friends and supporters as we embark on this critical mission,” said Professor Patrick Finbarr Allen, Dean of NUS Dentistry and Chairman of the fundraising organising committee.
Directed by Mr Jonathan Lim and written by Mr Desmond Sim, the show’s highlights include “Memoirs of a Dentist”, played by The Real Dentists; a segment by funnyman Mr Sebastian Tan; a medley by the Kids Performing Academy of the Arts; as well as the stylised moves of The Flossettes and Ms Rani Singam.
Oral Humour – The Show with Bite will be staged at the Esplanade Concert Hall at 7.30pm on Sunday, 28 August 2016. Tickets to the one-day-only performance priced at $500, $300 and $150 per ticket, are available from NUS Dentistry at (65) 67725970 / 67724937 and email: denvnair@nus.edu.sg or denltas@nus.edu.sg.
