NUS rises to 22nd in the world in latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings
The National University of Singapore (NUS) has moved up two places to clinch the 22nd spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018, achieving its best performance since the Rankings started in 2004. This year, NUS continues to be the top Asian university, a position the University has maintained for the third consecutive year.
The THE World University Rankings 2018 featured 1,000 institutions from 77 different countries this year. The rankings employ 13 calibrated performance indicators to reflect a university’s strengths in five areas that represent the core missions of research intensive universities: Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook and Industry Income. In this latest ranking, NUS has performed better in teaching and research reputations, research productivity, research income and research influence (citations). In addition, the University now ranks among the world’s top 20 universities in three areas: Research, Teaching and International Outlook.

Elaborating on the university’s strategic directions, Prof Tan added, “Given the rapid and profound changes in the nature of work, nurturing future-ready graduates and strengthening lifelong education are high priority thrusts for NUS. We will further intensify our efforts to build world-class research strengths, and to bring different disciplines together in large scale platforms that can help develop holistic approaches to address the complex challenges that confront Singapore and the world today.”
