Productivity, not trade, explains shift from manufacturing to services

Asst Prof Chen Chaoran from the Dept of Economics at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences noted it is not true that trade imbalance leads to a loss of manufacturing jobs. He explained that higher labour productivity in manufacturing causes fewer people to be needed in such jobs.
