Prof John Wong receives May Day Award 2020

Professor John Eu-Li Wong, NUS Senior Vice President (Health Innovation & Translation) and Isabel Chan Professor in Medical Sciences, has been conferred the Medal of Commendation, May Day Awards 2020. The Medal of Commendation is presented to senior management personnel in the Labour Movement network who contribute by promoting and supporting Labour Movement’s outcomes in improving workers’ wages, welfare and work prospects.

Prof Wong, who is also Special Advisor to the National University Health System (NUHS), was a strong advocate of bipartism and cordial Labour-Management Relations during his time as the Chief Executive of NUHS. He upheld good Industrial Relations by collaborating with the Union in discussions on fair and progressive employment practices, including wage-related matters.

A strong believer in lifelong learning, Prof Wong spearheaded NUHS’ partnership with NUS School of Continuing and Lifelong Education under the “All You Can Learn” scheme for NUHS institutions. This partnership offers healthcare staff more access to emerging and future ready skills training such as digital awareness, artificial intelligence and data analytics, among others. Under his leadership, NUHS was the first public healthcare cluster to sign an MOU with Healthcare Academy to provide continuous education for its staff.
