Prof Simon Chesterman to co-lead the Law Schools Global League

Professor Simon Chesterman, Dean of NUS Law, will be leading the Law Schools Global League (LSGL) into its second decade. He has been elected Co-President of the LSGL, together with Prof Martin Hogg, Dean of the University of Edinburgh Law School. They will serve for a term of two years.

Formed in 2012, the LSGL brings together like-minded law schools seeking to strengthen and deepen their commitments to globalisation. NUS Law, a founding member of the LSGL, is one of the most global law schools in the world, with faculty all holding at least one and often two or more international degrees, while half of its students go on exchange to more than fifty partners in over twenty countries.

The LSGL currently has a membership of 31 globally leading law schools. They share the common goals of fostering academic debate as well as cooperation in education and research concerning the globalisation of law, and of encouraging dialogue and facilitating collaboration among stakeholders in all fields of legal practice.

On what he hopes to achieve during his two-year term of presidency at LSGL, Prof Chesterman said, “We hope that LSGL can complement and enhance the educational and research missions of its members. But it may also provide unique opportunities for students and faculty through legal tech venture days, career opportunities at international organisations, and our partnership with the International Bar Association to ensure that our diverse curricula are properly addressing the changing needs of practice.”
